12 Hours in Uptown Manhattan
Whether you are travelling with kids or adults, tourists or born-and-bred New Yorkers, you can find exciting ways to explore and learn on the Upper East and Upper West sides of Manhattan! Make sure you hit all the highlights (including a delightful chocolate bag at Isabella’s!) by following our guide to uptown.
9:30am: It’s the weekend, and you want to try one of New York’s most famous brunches. Head over to Isabella’s, an iconic Upper West Side hangout where locals gather every Saturday and Sunday for eggs, pancakes and drinks. Make sure you save room for the famous dark chocolate bag, filled with raspberry mousse, berries and whipped cream! They don’t accept brunch reservations, so be sure to stop by early to ensure you snag a table.
11:30am: Head down the street to the Museum of Natural History! Travel back to the age of dinosaurs and be amazed by rare fossils of the Pterosaurs, or catch chills and thrills while watching an IMAX movie about the vicious great white shark.
1:30pm: Located just steps away from the museum is Manhattan’s biggest park! Walk around the Jacqueline Onassis Reservoir, tan and play Frisbee in Sheep’s Meadow, or sail around the boat basin by renting a rowboat (only $15 per hour!). Once you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy fresh salads, sushi and sandwiches at Ocean Grill.
4:00pm: Take a stroll down Madison Avenue, home to some of the trendiest shops Manhattan has to offer! Pop into Saks Fifth Avenue or Bloomingdales for a taste of New York’s giant department stores, but don’t spend all your money in one place!
7:00pm: People watch as you enjoy dinner outdoors at Atlantic Grill East Side. The fresh seafood and excellent cocktails are enough to draw large crowds of true Upper East Siders every night, so make sure you book a table in advance here. Don’t leave without trying the famous banana tower dessert!
8:30pm: If you’re with kids, check out Dylan’s Candy Bar, an inventive sweets wonderland. If your pack is over 21, check out some of the bars in the area. Head over to Dorrian’s, an Upper East Side staple, for a wild time, or relax with creative cocktails at JBird.
